The Visitation
A set of eight large paintings illustrating the Life of the Virgin were commissioned in the 18th century. In the 1860s, the Louvre museum exhibited the paintings. Only The Visitation returned to the cathedral in 1947 to decorate the choir of Notre-Dame. The Visitation, painted by Jean Jouvenet in 1716, is the most notable work of its time. Jean Jouvenet became a pupil of Charles Le Brun, at the age of 17.
