Statue of Saint Thomas

All of the statues look out over Paris except for the representation of the Apostle Saint Thomas, the patron saint of architects, who looks toward the spire. The face of Saint Thomas was modelled on the features of the spire’s architect, Eugene Viollet-le-Duc. Located on the south-east corner of the spire base, this copper statue was designed by Viollet-le-Duc, sculpted by Adolphe Victor Geoffroy-Dechaume and produced by the Alteliers Monduit in 1861.
